I was unable to unscrew the sump after 7 months of use using the supplied wrench. I had not run the hot water for 4 hours so it would be at room temperature and hopefully contracted enough to unscrew. I am quite strong but was afraid to force it and break a fixture. I purchased a second unit as a backup and called my plumber. We got it open but it unscrewed extremely hard. We replaced the filter. We could not screw the sump on all the way. The threads were stuck. It had expanded. The unit is rated for 176 degrees but our hot water has never exceeded 140 degrees. We screwed the new sump onto the old housing. It fit fine and the filter is back in service. The old sump is too large and does not screw on to the new housing. What is going to happen after 6 months when I have to unscrew it to replace the filter? Do I have to purchase yet another unit because the plastic is not fit for the purpose and it expands? The photo shows the old sump screwed into the new housing, as far as it will go.
